Apple Retail Store Upgrades
HDR | Andrew Reid is very proud to have been involved in the upgrade programme for the flagship Apple retail stores in Barcelona and Madrid, as well as in the development of a brand new store in the heart of Amsterdam.
The three stores are striking examples of the new retail design that Apple has launched. The exterior and architecture of the historic buildings that house the stores have remained largely unchanged, but walking into the stores provides a new level of sensory experience for Apple customers.
Featuring multi-storey atriums that are home to the new forums and signature 8K video walls, Apple has created a focal point space for customers to gather. The upgrades also include spacious avenues, indoor trees, leather benches and sleek wooden furniture – all of which rings true with Apple’s iconic minimalistic designs.
Our Design Peer Review team, led by Peter Jones and John Decker, alongside Bill Martin and Mark Rawlings from the HDR | Andrew Reid commissioning team completed the Commissioning Authority delivery (CxA) and Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) design support, in particular for the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. Work has largely been carried out with the stores still open, allowing Apple to continue to trade while ensuring the comfort and convenience of its customers.
