Transport for the North Conference 2019

On 11th February, Rail Sector Director Tony Latienda attended the inaugural Transport for the North Conference 2019 in Sheffield. The conference programme centred around outlining a vision for the future in the North. A series of panels throughout the day explored plans for road, freight, international connectivity, smart travel and rail, and their single biggest programme; Northern Powerhouse Rail.

The conference really signified the critical importance of promoting connectivity across Transport for the North and between Midlands Connect, the excitement and enthusiasm from delegates and speakers alike was contagious.

The launch of the Transport for the North – Strategic Transport Plan demonstrated huge dedication and effort from the sector, highlighting that we can no longer talk about vision and ambition. Now is the moment to deliver clarity and certainty and leave a legacy for future generations.

From our own perspective as a commissioning specialist, there is need to consider new approaches that can support the delivery of projects, and how we can bring innovation. A key enabler will be the transfer of skills and knowledge from working with global technology providers, in other mission critical environments and the will to harness rail commissioning solutions.

Transport for the North has also produced this short video highlighting some of the key messages from the event:
