UK Rail Industry Forum 2018

On Wednesday 12th September, Steve Hawkins and Tony Latienda attended the UK Rail Industry Forum 2018 in London. It was a great opportunity to explore the challenges and opportunities facing the rail industry and gain a unique insight into all types of rail improvement programmes covering how innovation, capacity, connectivity and the consumer experience including the potential impact of Brexit are progressing in the UK.

Amongst the speaker sessions, they attended ‘Innovation in the UK Rail industry- plans for CP6 and beyond’ with Jon Shaw, Chief Engineer & Acting Group Director for Safety, Technical and Engineering from Network Rail who spoke expertly about innovation and the need to “reverse the cost of work – not sustainable in the long term and there is a need for technical improvements”.

We also heard from Tim Wood, Northern Powerhouse Rail Director in his session ‘Transport for the North update: Delivering improvements in the North’ in connection with the vision and ambitious plans to provide fast, frequent and reliable links between Liverpool, Manchester (including Manchester Airport), Leeds, Sheffield, Hull, Newcastle and ‘the impetus build’.

Networking with leading players and key sector stakeholders at the event, we believe there is a real positive vibe about the future of rail and are looking forward to commissioning playing a critical and major part in the development of the UK Rail Industry.
